92 participating nations
92 nations participated in the 1976 Summer Olympics. In fact, 6 028 athletes competed in 21 different sports. The Montreal Olympics are famous for two major reasons.
First, they're known because of the African boycott, due to participation of New Zealand.
Also because a 14-year-old gymnast from Romania, named Nadia Comaneci, scored seven perfect 10s and won three gold medals, including the prestigious All Around. The score board could hold only 3 digits, so her score was shown as 1:00.
