Was once made of wood

Altough it is Jacques Cartier, guided by Hochelaga (old Montréal name) natives, who named the hill "Mont-Royal", it is Paul de Chomedey, Sieur de Maisonneuve, who erected a cross on top of the hill to thank the lord for saving the colony from flooding.

For sure it was once made of wood, it has been changed for metal near 1924, when it's been by the same way illuminated by night.
